DRIVE 2 THRIVE:
Making driving more accessible - because independence shouldn’t be limited by cost.
WHAT IS DRIVE 2 THRIVE?
Drive 2 Thrive is a national initiative designed to make driving more accessible for care-experienced young people and adults across the UK.
Delivered in partnership with National Intensive and Book Instructor, the initiative provides access to discounted driving lessons - helping to reduce one of the most common financial barriers to independence.
For many, driving isn’t just about getting from A to B.
It’s about access to employment, education, and opportunities that may otherwise feel out of reach.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The cost of learning to drive can be a significant barrier.
For care-experienced individuals, this often sits alongside other gaps in the ‘typical’ forms of support that many unknowingly take for granted - making it harder to access something that can directly impact long-term independence.
Without access to driving:
Job opportunities can be limited
Education and training can be harder to reach
Everyday independence can feel restricted
Opportunities that require a driving licence continue to increase - making access to driving more important than ever.
Drive 2 Thrive was created to respond to this.
Not just by offering discounts - but by recognising the wider impact that mobility has on confidence, independence, and life outcomes.
HOW IT WORKS
Drive 2 Thrive operates through partnerships with organisations, services, and Local Authorities across the UK.
Discount codes are provided directly to Local Authorities, who can use these when booking lessons on behalf of care-experienced individuals.
Many Local Authorities already offer support for driving lessons as part of their Local Offer, though this can vary - so it’s always worth checking what is available in your area.
This approach ensures:
Support is structured and consistent
Opportunities are embedded within existing services
Access is supported where funding or schemes are already in place
The discount typically applies across different parts of the booking process and can equate to an overall saving of around 20%, depending on the lesson package and provider.
ACCESSING SUPPORT DIRECTLY
Drive 2 Thrive has also been designed to remain accessible for individuals who may not currently be in regular contact with services.
If you choose to contact partner providers directly, you may still be able to access discounted rates, but you will likely be asked to provide proof of care-experienced status.
This helps ensure the initiative remains accessible, while still protecting the integrity of the support offered.
Adelphi does not manage bookings or personal data and acts as a connector - helping to make opportunities visible and easier to access.
WHO IT’S FOR
Drive 2 Thrive supports care-experienced individuals aged 17+.
There is no upper age limit.
This includes individuals over 25 who may still face barriers to accessing driving lessons.
Because support doesn’t stop at a certain age.
And independence doesn’t have a deadline.
